Waste Disposal


The Waste Management Department at the Supreme Council for the Environment studies the waste disposal requests scientifically and accurately to determine the best way to dispose of waste. Hence, the applicant should provide the following:

  • Send a formal letter addressed to the Director of Environmental Assessment and Control.
  • Fill in the following form: Waste Profile Sheet. (Download File)
  • Attach a list of the waste material, their condition and quantity, if the request is for more than one kind of waste.
    • After the relevant section studies the request in accordance with the abovementioned information, further action to get to know the classification commensurate with the nature of the waste may be needed, as follows:

      • Carrying out a field visit to the site where the waste is stored.
      • Making a laboratory analysis in the presence of a representative from the Supreme Council for the Environment during the sampling.
        • After determining the final classification of the waste, the Waste Management Department explains the method of disposal, which should be carried out in accordance with the following procedures:

          • If a decision is taken to dispose of the waste in the Askar landfill for municipal waste, treat it, recycle it or re-use it in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the following original form is used and is provided by the Waste Management Department’s Waste Management Manifest. (Download File)
          • If the waste is going to be disposed of the landfill of the Haffira Disposal for hazardous industrial, the following form, provided by the Waste Management Department, should be used: Haffira Disposal Manifest. (Download File)
          • If it is decided to export the waste outside the Kingdom of Bahrain, the requirements stipulated by the Basel Convention on the Control of Trans-boundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal should apply, and therefore, the waste export procedures should be reviewed.
