Overview


The effort of the Supreme Council for the Environment’s Waste Management Department are focused on the management of waste resulting from the industrial sector and the hazardous waste from other sectors and the disposal of waste in an environmentally safe manner, in accordance with the provisions of the domestic legislation and international agreements, and in accordance with international commitments of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the regarding the protection of the environment.

These efforts culminated in the winning of the Supreme Council for the Environment of the International Green Apple Award in 2005, granted by the UK-based Green Organisation. The prestigious award was granted to Bahrain’s Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife in recognition of its initiative to set up the Haffira site for the disposal of industrial waste and also for its initiative in providing a space for the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
