Green Information and Communication Technology

Green information and communication technology (ICT) adoption is considered as one of leading projects implemented by the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) within the field of environment and informatics. SCE executed the project in 2009 by adopting the usage of latest modern technology in the field of green ICT in in an effort to rationalize electricity consumption and eventually reducing the carbon footprint of the entity.

The main objective of the project was optimizing the application of green technologies within the working environment. This objective stems from the Council’s vision to become a model to other institutions in such a practice on national and regional level. 


Bahrain International Green Technology Forum and Exhibition 2012

Bahrain International Green Technology Forum and exhibition was the first conducted in the relation to green technologies at the kingdom. The Supreme Council for Environment organized the function (formerly the General Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife) in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the forum came in line with the kingdom's economic vision 2030 and its policies towards protecting the environment and preserving its natural resources.

One of the most important objectives of the forum was to spread the concept of green technology among different stakeholders, in addition to illustrating the latest achievements of international organizations and institutions within the field. The forum looked into the following themes: 1) energy efficiency and sustainable development.

2) stimulating investment and transfer to green technology.

3) waste management.

4) water management.

5) green life style.


International Economics and Green Technologies Forum 2015

Held in 2015, the International Forum on Green Economics and Green Technologies proceeded the 2012 Forum. Organized by the Supreme Council for the Environment in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the forum aimed at emphasizing the Kingdom's vision towards sustainability of its natural resources, along with diversifying its energy mix. The themes addressed were: 

1) renewable and alternative sources of energy.

2) overall growth and the green economy. 

3) green lifestyle and sustainable consumption and production.

4) Solid waste management.


The 2019 MENA Regional High-Level Forum on Green Economy

Under the patronage and organization of the Supreme Council for the Environment, and in collaboration with the World Green Economy Organization, United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, the 2019 MENA Regional High-Level Forum on Green Economy, was hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain during 2-4 July. 

The forum focused on three thematic areas: 

1) improving regulatory and policy frameworks for de-risking green investment.

 2) promoting innovative green investment through public private partnerships.

3) advancing national-level capacity development for holistic green economy action. 


The Forum aimed at creating an open and conducive knowledge sharing setting, to support the participants in further improving their understanding on the trends and opportunities on the way towards advancing Green Economy agenda in the MENA Region, while serving as a podium to exchange green economy solutions and experiences in the region.

Hosted at the Kingdom, the forum provides an opportunity to highlight the country role in supporting the global green economy agenda, and its willingness to benefit from the solutions offered, while considering what is appropriate to its national development.
